All about our new old house

We're homeowners!
We bought a wonderful old house in Salem, Oregon, in January 2006.

It's an American Foursquare, "simple and pragmatic." It was built in 1916. It seems to have a little bit of history, and we're tracking that down & will share it here as we stumble across interesting bits. We'll also try to post pictures and keep you updated on the progress of our house-related projects.

Look around the site to see lots of pictures and to read our blog about the house. Thanks for visiting!

  What we're working on:
Main floor

The carpet's gone, the linoleum's up, the walls are stripped of all previous decorating disasters. Next up: Refinishing the floors in October, fixing the plaster walls & painting!

  • HouseClub

Sometime around when we moved into this huge, old, slightly run-down house, we thought it'd be a fun, educational and productive idea to gather some of our fellow old-home-owning friends to all work on house projects together. Our friends agreed, and...

  • Little summer touches

It's summer! It's hard to tell sometimes because it hasn't really stopped raining here in Oregon. But we get little breaks now and then. We enjoy those few warm days out on our great front porch with our cool new chairs and table: The wife of Jim's...

  • Old-growth forest under my feet

We had a guy out this week to give us a bid on refinishing the wood floors. His enthusiasm was definitely encouraging. We had ripped up the carpet before we moved in because Jim couldn't handle living in a house with hardwood floors and having them...
